PRESS RELEASE

Billericay Design Statement Road Shows

Following the successful launch exhibition at Billericay Library in June, visited by over 1000 people, there will be further BDS road shows at the Billericay Fun Day, Sun Corner on 15 July and at St John's Church, Outwood Common on 21 July.

Presented by The Billericay Design Statement Association, the road shows are designed to let residents say what they think about building styles, roads, public transport, green belt, schools and environmental issues which affect the whole of Billericay as well as the High Street area. Displays will highlight the changing face of the Town and representatives will be on hand to answer questions and explain the objectives of the Billericay Design Statement.

The Design Statement is a planning document intended to supplement Basildon District Council's planning guidance within the Local Development Framework. It sets out the specific nature of the buildings and landscape which makes the town distinctive, with recommendations on how to encourage new development which will enhance and complement that which already exists. It will offer guidance to landowners, architects, builders and homeowners when preparing proposals and making alterations. The document will facilitate approval of planning applications and discourage unsympathetic developments.

The Billericay Design Statement is being prepared by an independent Steering Group, a voluntary partnership of key members of the community, including the private sector, with support from Town and District Councils.

Road show times are:
Billericay Fun Day (Sun Corner) - Sunday 15 July, 11am to 4.30pm
St John's (Outwood Common) - Saturday 21 July, 10am to 5pm

More road shows are planned for other venues around the Town throughout the summer. Alternatively, people can access the BDSA website at www.billericaydsa.org.uk to take part in the consultation. For more information, contact Lynda Kelly on 01277 622618.
